My Thoughts & Review
I don’t watch many moves based on historical fiction, but I loved watching War Horse when it first came out and have wanted to read the book ever since but just never got around to it. But I finally decided it was time to give it a go.
War Horse is a beautiful story that is well written and very easy to follow. The writing is similar to that of Black Beauty, where the story is told through the point of view from Joey the horse. In both the movie and book, I fell in love with Joey straight from the start.
Morpurgo has captured the heart of war, suffering and courage of the horses and soldier’s so well. He has also managed to include so much detail in such a short book, which I loved reading about.
War Horse will undeniably take your emotions on a roller-coaster ride, so if you’re the type of reader that tears up easily, I highly recommend you sit down with a box of tissues when you sit down to read this one.
This is definitely a book that I think everyone should read at least once, no matter how old you are.
I ended up downloading the audiobook from my library on Libby and the narrator John Keating was fantastic, he really brought the story to life and could really visualise every scene in the book.
