Pet Sematary by Stephen King
Format: Paperback
Source: Library Book
Publisher: Hodder & Stoughton
Genres: Horror, Thriller, Fiction
Publication Date: 10th November 2011
Synopsis/Blurb (Taken from Goodreads):
“The house looked right, felt right to Dr Louis Creed.
Rambling, old, unsmart and comfortable. A place where the family could settle; the children grow and play and explore. The rolling hills and meadows of Maine seemed a world away from the fume-choked dangers of Chicago.
Only the occasional big truck out on the two-lane highway, grinding up through the gears, hammering down the long gradients, growled out an intrusive threat.
But behind the house and far away from the road: that was safe. Just a carefully cleared path up into the woods where generations of local children have processed with the solemn innocence of the young, taking with them their dear departed pets for burial.
A sad place maybe, but safe. Surely a safe place. Not a place to seep into your dreams, to wake you, sweating with fear and foreboding.”
My Thoughts & Review
This was a re-read for me. The first time I read this book was when I was at school. I remember picking it up as part of the school libraries Summer reading Challenge. This was one of the books that got me hooked on King’s books.
Pet Sematary is one of my favourite King’s books and think it always will be as this is where my love for horror really started.
I’m not going to go into the plot of this book because I think the little you know the better it is to read.
Pet Sematary does build up slowly but by the end the slow build up is definitely worth it. Even though I know what was going to happen I still couldn’t put this book down I managed to finish it within two. days. I also really enjoyed getting to know the Creeds all over again, and watching them form friendships with their neighbours the Crandall’s across the road. As well as reading all the creepy things that were about to happen.
I loved everything about this book and I really don’t know what to say that hasn’t already been said so I’m going to leave it here and say that this is definitely one of my favourite Stephen King books and if anyone is looking for a great horror book then and you haven’t already read this one then you should check it out.
(I read this for the prompt Book Published in the Year You Were Born for the 2020 TBR Reading Challenge created by Mina @ Stacked Reviews)

A great review of Pet Sematary, which I also enjoyed although it is not in my top three King books. I like The Shining, It and Salem’s Lot the best.

Thanks Roberta!! The Shining and IT are also my favourites, have read them several times. A re-read of them is due. 🙂

In the current world circumstances, maybe a re-read of The Stand is in order, but on the other hand, it might be to scary.

The Stand is on my TBR list and wish list, but am a bit intimidated by the size of the book 😅

Yes, it is quite hefty, but its not as long as It which takes the prize.

This and The Stand are my two favorite King books. Both of them still scare me to death! I’m glad it’s a fave of yours too!

I’ve not read The Stand yet but it’s definitely on my TBR list. The size of it scares me 😂.

It’s Soooooooo Loooooong but I’ve read it multiple times and each time I find something new that I hadn’t really thought about before. It’s pretty awesome.

Will see if I have a copy on my Kindle and at least try and start it, and maybe I’ll even manage to finish it by the end of the year, as I tend to get distracted with other books when reading chunky books😂

I love horror and nothing gets this close to horror as Pet Sematary. I like the crisp review too. I am picking it up next.

😂😂😂 I thought this was super mini because I didn’t go into a lot of detail and it literally only took me about 10 minutes to write. 🙈🙊
