Amazon (UK) || Goodreads

Synopsis/Blurb:

The Earth’s ecosystems have collapsed and only ashes remain. Is one girl’s courage enough to keep hope alive in the wastelands?

It’s the year 2123, and sixteen-year-old Adina has just accidentally killed fourteen thousand seven hundred and fifty-six people. Raised in the eco-bubble of Eden Five, Adina has always believed that the Amonston Corporation’s giant greenhouse would keep her safe forever. But when her own careless mistake leads to an explosion that incinerates Eden Five, she and a small group of survivors must brave the barren wastelands outside the ruined Dome to reach the Sanctuary before their biofilters give out and their DNA threatens to mutate in the toxic air.

They soon discover that the outside isn’t as deserted as they were made to believe, and the truth is unearthed on their dangerous expedition. As time runs out, Adina must tackle her guilty conscience and find the courage to get everyone to safety. Will she make it alive, or will the Nomalies get to her first?

My Thoughts:

Victoria is a talented author who writes a variety of genres and of the books I’ve read so far have loved them all, and Feast of Ashes is no exception.

Feast of Ashes is the first book in a new YA dystopian series. it’s set in Africa and follows a teenage girl called Adina as her life as she knows it is pulled apart after the eco dome that she’s lived in all her life is ripped apart after a disastrous explosion.

This book is beautifully written and fast-paced with plenty of twists and turns that keep you hooked and wanting more. The story is told from the first-person perspective of Adina.

I loved the characters. I loved their individuality and personalities. I found it easy to differentiate them and loved discovering their secrets as they slowly unravelled throughout the book. I found Adina to be the most complex character of them all. She’s determined to protect and do anything for those she loves, in particular her 6-year-old sister, but at the same time, she shows a different personality towards her 10-year-old half-sister, whom she blames for her parent’s marriage problems.

Feast of Ashes is a great start to the series, and I can’t wait to pick up the next book. I’m really hoping the wait won’t be too long!!

If you enjoy reading YA dystopian books, then I think this will be a great one to try!!
