Synopsis/Blurb (Taken from Goodreads):
In a small back alley in Tokyo, there is a café which has been serving carefully brewed coffee for more than one hundred years. But this coffee shop offers its customers a unique experience: the chance to travel back in time…
From the author of Before the Coffee Gets Cold comes a story of four new customers each of whom is hoping to take advantage of Cafe Funiculi Funicula’s time-travelling offer.
Among some faces that will be familiar to readers of Kawaguchi’s previous novel, we will be introduced to:
The man who goes back to see his best friend who died 22 years ago
The son who was unable to attend his own mother’s funeral
The man who travelled to see the girl who he could not marry
The old detective who never gave his wife that gift…
This beautiful, simple tale tells the story of people who must face up to their past, in order to move on with their lives. Kawaguchi once again invites the reader to ask themselves: what would you change if you could travel back in time?”

My Thoughts
This is the second book in the Before The Coffee Gets Cold series. In this one we follow four new short stories, where people return to a point in their past/future.
Having read the first book back in 2021, I was already familiar with the concept of what happens.
I really enjoyed the book but feel this one definitely is my favourite. I felt better connected with the characters and understood the stories and reasons why people wanted to return to the past. Another thing I liked about this second book was that we got to know the staff and their stories much more. And it also answered the questions that I was left with after reading the first book.
Now, although I adored both books what I did find a little annoying was the constant repetition of the rules that each person needs to follow. I mean I know the customers/characters need to be made aware of them but when you have to read them over and over again trust me it gets annoying. I think I know the rules off by heart now!!
Overall a great read and can’t wait to pick up the third book!!
