Synopsis/Blurb (Taken from Goodreads):
“Piranesi’s house is no ordinary building: its rooms are infinite, its corridors endless, its walls are lined with thousands upon thousands of statues, each one different from all the others. Within the labyrinth of halls an ocean is imprisoned; waves thunder up staircases, rooms are flooded in an instant. But Piranesi is not afraid; he understands the tides as he understands the pattern of the labyrinth itself. He lives to explore the house.
There is one other person in the house—a man called The Other, who visits Piranesi twice a week and asks for help with research into A Great and Secret Knowledge. But as Piranesi explores, evidence emerges of another person, and a terrible truth begins to unravel, revealing a world beyond the one Piranesi has always known.”

My Thoughts & Review
This is my first book by Susanna Clarke, I’ve been eyeing this one up for a while and after reading the synopsis I was excited to pick it up. I was also very tempted to buy a copy but in the end decided to place a hold on it at my local library, and I’m so glad I did as I struggled with this book big time.
I almost DNF-ed this book and the only reason I didn’t was because I honestly thought it would get better and just maybe I would fall in love with it like so many others have, but it wasn’t to be.
I think the main problem I had with this book was the fact that I was pretty confused throughout the whole thing and had no idea what was actually going on. It felt like the plot had no direction and everything was just all over the place.
Even though the plot was confusing I thought the characters would change my feelings towards the book but honestly they did nothing to sway my opinion. I found the main character Piranesi just as confusing as the plot and as for the other characters well I can’t say anything different.
I really had high hopes for this one and wish I had enjoyed it much more than I did, but it just didn’t work for me. Although I’m personally not a fan of this one I know many have loved and will love this no matter what. If you haven’t read this one and are planning to pick it up I highly recommend you try to borrow a copy first.

I hate when an anticipated and hyped book ends up disappointing you. Sorry to hear this one was one of those! I’ve been on the fence about reading this since the beginning cos I had a feeling I’d have the same type of experience you did (plain confused) but I’ve been hearing so many amazing things that I still might want to give it a try!
