About the Authors:

Carola Schmidt is a pediatric oncology pharmacist, scientific writer and children’s book writer.

Author of several kids’ books about cancer, such as Bald is Beautiful: A letter for a fabulous girl, Cancer Daily Life, Chubby’s Tale: The true story of a teddy bear who beat cancer (listed by BookAuthority as one of the “81 Best Leukemia Books of All Time”.) MY THOUGHTS:

Bald is Beautiful is an inspirational little book. It is written as a letter to young girls who are either losing her hair or have lost their hair due to cancer treatment.

The book is a wonderfully written book. The book itself doesn’t directly go into specific details about cancer and its treatments. Although it does address some sensitive issues that may arise from cancer treatments, the major one being hair loss. The text is simple yet easy to follow but at the same focuses on the positives.

The book is full of beautiful and colourful illustrations making it ideal for younger readers.

After reading Bald is Beautiful myself, I went on to read it again with for the second time with my 7 year old nephew. He found the book very interesting and said the illustrations were cute, but at the same time he did say that the book was too “girlie” and asked what about the boys who lost their hair. So, when I asked him would he tell his friends about this book he said he would only tell the girls as the boys might not like it because it’s about a girl.

All in all, a great book, that although aimed for the younger reads is worth reading by all ages!!
