My Thoughts & Review

After reading and really enjoying Ready Player One back in March 2019, I couldn’t wait to find out what Wade and the gang have been up to and was very looking forward to the exciting adventure like in the first book, but sadly it left me al little disappointed. Don’t get me wrong this wasn’t a terrible read but it also wasn’t as good as Ready Player one. 

There were some really great parts in the book, but I felt the writing in this one just wasn’t to the same standard as the first. The great parts seemed to get lost in long explanations. Normally I’m a fan of long explanations in sci-fi books but in this book I found them to be too long and also quite confusing with what I consider to be too much info dumping and just one too many 80’s references.

I was also expecting the book to show development of the characters, and was looking forward to finding out how the gang have coped with their new responsibilities, but I was actually shocked to find that all the characters has changed. It was as if they had all had personalities transplants. They were no way close to the characters we first met in Ready Player one. For this reason, I found it difficult to like the characters fully this time around.

I was going to wait to pick up the physical book, but as my local library was still closed at the time I decided I was ready to pick this tome up, iI opted to download the audiobook and I’m glad I did, as I thing the narrator Wil Wheaton has done a really great job with the narration, and for this reason I gave the an extra heart rating.

Overall this wasn’t a bad read but it just wasn’t to the same standard as Ready Player Two, I think I may have set my expectations just a little too high for this sequel.
