He is not what he seems . . .

Ed is delighted to meet his twenty-three year old daughter’s fiancé for the first time. Abbey is head-over-heels in love with her new man. Smart, successful and handsome, Ryan appears to be the perfect future son-in-law.

There’s just one problem. There’s something off about Ryan. Something hidden in the shadows behind his eyes. And it seems that only Ed can see it.

Terrified that his daughter is being drawn in by a psychopath, Ed sets out to uncover her fiancé’s dark past – while keeping his own concealed. But no-one believes him. And the more he digs, the more he alienates her and the rest of the family who are convinced that Ryan is ‘the one’.

Ed knows different. For reasons of his own, he knows a monster when he sees one.”

My Thoughts & Review

Having read The Holiday back in December 2019 and enjoying it when I saw this one was available as an audiobook on BorrowBox I downloaded it straight away.

The Catch is well written and easy to read, but the atmosphere was a little slow to build. And, there were some unrealistic moments in places, but overall the book had me wanting to know what would happen next. However, when I got to the end I did feel a little disappointed with the ending, it felt rushed and a bit jumbled.

All in all, The Catch is not a bad read but personally I still prefer The Holiday.

  1. Oh, too bad. It sounds really good. But I get that after that build up a forseeable ending is quite disappointing. Well, I’m not really into thrillers at the moment anyway.
