My Thoughts & Review

The Shining is one of my favourites by Stephen King, and when I heard that he had written a follow up book I had to read it, but like many of my owned TBR I only got around to reading it this year. A couple of King’s books have been a hit and miss in the past but this time, it was definitely a hit.

I’ve re-read The Shining several times and no matter how many times I read it I always ended up wondering what would happen with Danny, and now I do.

The starting was quite slow and a little depressing and I truly thought what a disappointing life style Danny has chosen, but then things happen and it turns out I was wrong. Doctor Sleep is not just a sequel to The Shining but follows a whole new story line. You don’t necessarily need to have read The Shining but there are references to the book and personally I think if you read the first book it will definitely help you understand the book a little better. But if you don’t want to read The Shining then it’s not a problem.

Although King is the master of writing horror books, for me this book wasn’t particularly scary in the traditional horror sense. Instead it was something I would describe as twisted

Definitely a book I would recommend and happy to re-read.
