Synopsis/Blurb (taken from Goodreads):
“Natasha: I’m a girl who believes in science and facts. Not fate. Not destiny. Or dreams that will never come true. I’m definitely not the kind of girl who meets a cute boy on a crowded New York City street and falls in love with him. Not when my family is twelve hours away from being deported to Jamaica. Falling in love with him won’t be my story.

Daniel: I’ve always been the good son, the good student, living up to my parents’ high expectations. Never the poet. Or the dreamer. But when I see her, I forget about all that. Something about Natasha makes me think that fate has something much more extraordinary in store—for both of us.

The Universe: Every moment in our lives has brought us to this single moment. A million futures lie before us. Which one will come true?

My Thoughts & Review

Finally, after seeing this book everywhere. I finally manged to get it from my library. I was also lucky enough to be able to download the audiobook as well so managed to read the first half of the book and listened to the second half.
This is my first Nicola Yoon book and when I picked up this book I didn’t really know what it was about.
I have such mixed feelings about it, and because of this I found it difficult to write this review so I thought I would list what I liked about it and then attempt to explain what I didn’t like. Hopefully it all makes sense.
Things I liked:

  • I liked how the author covered the topic of immigration and deportation in this book.
  • I thought it was well written. Simple yet sort of realistic.
  • The characters were interesting
  • The different perspectives from random characters as well as from the main characters

I’ve been trying to rack my brains to see if I could work out what I didn’t like about this book, and I think I have finally had. I think the main reason was basically the romantic plot. I’m not usually one to read romance books out of choice. I don’t mind books with a little romance but I felt this one just had too much. I think if this book was just about the deportation and immigration aspect then I would have probably enjoyed it much more.
In conclusion this was an okish may be even a little disappointing read that I really tried to like, but just couldn’t. Not sure if I would recommend this book to anyone who isn’t a fan of romance. But if your into the whole romance genre then this book is definitely for you.

My Rating:

💙💙1/2
